Lunch with Tomte & Preparations for Midsummer

By

One sunny afternoon, Elowen decided to visit Tomte, who was hard at work repairing one of the cottage’s windows. She carried with her a lunchbox filled with a sandwich, a jar of honey, and a cup of tea. The window, battered by winter storms, was in dire need of repair before the approaching Midsummer Solstice when Elowen planned to house guests in the cottage.

“Tomte,” she called as she approached the gnome, who was busy hammering and sawing. “I’ve brought you some lunch. You must be famished.”

Tomte looked up from his work, his white beard and red cap adding a dash of whimsy to his appearance. “You’ve arrived just in time. My stomach was starting to grumble louder than my tools.”

Elowen laid out the lunch on a nearby tree stump, and the two of them sat down to enjoy the meal. They chatted about the progress of the cottage repairs and the plans for the upcoming Midsummer Solstice celebration.

Once the meal was finished, Elowen grew more serious. “Tomte, I wanted to make sure you’ll be able to join us for the Yuletide gathering at my main house this year. It wouldn’t be the same without you.”

Tomte smiled warmly, his eyes twinkling with delight. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Your Yuletide gatherings are the highlight of my year, and I cherish the company and the warmth of your hearth.”

Elowen’s heart warmed at his words. “I’m so glad to hear that, Tomte. It wouldn’t be the same without you.”

Tomte thanked Elowen for the meal and got back to work, determined to have the window repaired in time for Midsummer Solstice. Elowen watched him for a moment, appreciating the dedication of her diminutive friend, and then she made her way back to her main house, where a busy season awaited her.
